Admiralty law (also referred to as maritime law) is a distinct body of law which governs maritime questions and offenses. All countries have maritime laws and they are responsible for their vessels regardless of which ocean they are sailing in. Admiralty Law Attorneys represent cases of all matters concerning cargo disputes, oil pollution, fishing regulations, international trade, cargo, marine commerce, marine navigation, shipping, sailors, transportation of passengers and goods by sea and injury that takes place on docks and vessels.
Admiralty Law Attorneys or Admiralty Lawyers also offer advice on trade laws, legal matters concerning environmental groups and the protection of endangered species. Admiralty Law also covers freight and passenger liabilities.
Admiralty law also covers many commercial activities, although land based or occurring wholly on land, that are maritime in character.
Admiralty law is distinguished from the Law of the Sea, which is a body of public international law dealing with navigational rights, mineral rights, and jurisdiction over coastal waters and international law governing relationships between nations.
There are various Admiralty and Maritime Law committees all over the world. These types of committees strive to serve as the primary resource for admiralty and maritime law tort and insurance practice education and knowledge. Admiralty and Maritime Law committees also encourage diversity of membership and promote professionalism in the particular chosen field of admiralty and maritime lawyers.
